If you double-click the Spss output image for a cross-tab, but not using percentages, here is an easy way to make a graph that shows averages of row values for a each of the column values.

Click "Spss Pivot object" after you double-click the Spss output image for a cross-tab. Then run your cursor over the integer frequencies of cases inside the table. Now use Edit/Copy so you can past these numbers in an Excel file. Open Excel and position the cursor on a single cell, then paste. Ro average the row values for each column:

  • Enter the row numbers along the right side of the table, e.g., 1, 2, 3, etc.
  • To the right of the first of these labels, enter the following: =Average(J1:J5) assuming your first row of values to average are in cells J1 through J5.
  • Click on this cell, and put your cursor on the small square in the lower right of the cel.
  • Pull the cursor down to reproduce the averaging command for each row.
  • Run your cursor over the two vertical columns you have created
  • Find the icon for making a graph at the top Excel menu (it looks like a bar graph)
  • In the pulldown menu, click XY scatter, then click one of the crossing-line images.
  • You now have your graph, which you can copy and past as an image into word.
