Introduction and Hartmut Lang's (1995) CONAN data base

Comparison of societies cross-culturally on dimensions of internal and external war as well as loyalty and hostility to other ethnic groups, using data from Hartmut Lang's (1995) CONAN data base, led Elizabeth Cashdan (2001:761) to the conclusion that "external warfare promotes ethnic loyalty more strongly in egalitarian societies." American Presidents have seemed to use external war prior to democratic elections, to build patriotic loyalty in an effort to win votes. While this might be a cost-free political mobilization of votes in a case like Reagan's invasion of Granada, the invasions of Muslim territories by the Bush governments, especially those of Bush II, did not reckon with the dynamics of blowback.

Earlier findings (White 1990) replicated with Conan data: general question of contingency relations. (Is is possible to do a conditional replication test?) E.g. with Matlab and Anthon Eff?
