Good Morning Sir,

I have registered to be included on the new LISTSERVE.
Beyond that... Our overlay graph on Google Earth becomes more important with time. There is little or no confusion regarding the nodes and ties to the capital city from the outlying areas. Previous authors have documented the comparative weakness of clans in metropolitan areas relative to the importance in rural areas. Several reasons are given for this behavior which seem plausible, so for the moment I will skip those. Additionally, one fourth of all members in the National Assembly are from this major metropolitan area. There is a more important issue - physically rescaling the graph and underlaying map to match. In short, I need to ensure that there are no nodes and/or ties extending into the Caspian Sea (the northeast corner of the map) or elsewhere extending beyond the geographic boundaries of the country.
Other than that, everyone who looks at the map/graph is astounded that there actually exists a method for demonstrating this phenomenon. The words "gold mine" have emanated from more than one mouth around here.
I have submitted an abstract (basically the same abstract from last spring) to the CESS (Central Eurasian Studies Society) conference in Tashkent to be held in August 2008. I will wait to see if it is accepted. If so, I intend to repeat the UCI presentation from last March, in abbreviated format.
Oops, ran out of time,

Marti, see: GIS in Google Earth - Just finished "playing" with this new tool. I have a lot to learn about the software but the initial images are fantastic! - Marti
