A good research problem would be to read the literature on motifs and motif-profiles in network analyses in several fields (such as those we have in White and and Houseman 2002 or White and Johanse 2006 for kinship networks), the problem being how to explain the frequency order of the motifs -- robustness has been the explanation in one study -- but structural k-cohesion for which Moody and White 2003 invented the code is perfect for the analysis and is readily available in R. This is a general explanatory hypothesis that includes robustness.
