Conservatives are America's real terrorists New York Times, 8/11/2010

Very way way way far beyond scare tactics

There is also a book by Naomi Klein, 2008 (paper), The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism, Naomi Klein

Then there is Michigan's emergency financial manager bill that passed the State Senate March 9th 2011 "after the House passed a similar version." Rachel Maddow "took exception to what she said was Gov. Rick Snyder using fiscal crisis as an excuse to install an administration-selected manager who could cancel union contracts and strip powers from elected officials. She opened the segment by saying the bill sounds like something out of a 'dystopian leftist novel from the future.' (see video)

Maddow reports.

This is a totalitarian handover to corporations to run Michigan communities lock stock and barrel, negate the rights of citizens and make it legal for corporations taking over Michigan communities to punish citizens who object. The "plan" is consistent with what Naomi Klein's 4-year investigation has revealed in US corporate and Republican activities overseas.

Little wonder that the first move of many newly elected Republican governors has been to reduce taxes for corporations!

Wisconsin and other shame on the Republicans

Dear MoveOn member,

Last night, Wisconsin Republicans rammed through their attack on workers' rights in a shameful--and probably illegal--power grab.1

Wisconsin progressives surrounded the capital last night and are mounting more protests today. To support them--and to oppose Republicans in Congress who are pushing similar attacks on all of our communities--we've launched a huge "Defend the Dream" day of action next Tuesday.

Hundreds of events are already planned--but there isn't one yet in La Jolla. Can you sign up today to host an event?

At state capitols, parks, schools, libraries, and other public institutions that face huge funding cuts in the GOP budget, we'll gather to hear from people who will be most affected, like teachers and firefighters, and show our solidarity against these devastating cuts and attacks on workers' rights.

Help make sure people in La Jolla have a way to take part in the Defend the Dream day of action on Tuesday: Sign up today to host an event. Just click here to get started:

Never hosted before? No worries--it's simple, fun, and we'll make sure you have everything you need, from a step-by-step guide to sample materials. Just pick a location--somewhere that will be affected by the Republicans' vicious budget cuts and attacks on workers: in front of a school, park, library, hospital, daycare center, or your state capitol. We'll make sure you're set with all the tools you need to do the rest.

Republicans in Idaho and Ohio have already voted for similar anti-worker bills like the one in Wisconsin.2 And nationally, the GOP budget would gut health care, environmental protections, housing assistance, food aid, and more. It's insane--and a direct assault on the American Dream.3

We need to take our cues from the brave people in Madison and stand up next Tuesday to say "No More!"

La Jolla is counting on you--can you organize an event after work next week? Just click the link below to sign up:

Thanks for all you do.

Late Wednesday night, Republicans in Wisconsin's State Senate used the nuclear option to ram through a controversial bill attacking working families.

They gamed the rules and did this under the cover of night.

Scott Walker and the Republicans' ideological war on the middle class and working families is now indisputable, and their willingness to shred 50 years of labor peace, bipartisanship, and Wisconsin's democratic process to pass a bill that 74% of Wisconsinites oppose is beyond reprehensible and possibly illegal.

Walker and the GOP were lying this whole time - this attack on workers' rights never had anything to do with fixing the state's budget.

Working families in Wisconsin are fighting back by mounting recall campaigns against Republican State Senators who just took an axe to the middle class.

Please make a donation today and help support the Wisconsin Democratic Party's recall efforts:

Walker and the Wisconsin Republicans have been trying to take away workers' rights for almost a month. They would have succeeded sooner were it not for the courageous actions of workers in the streets of Wisconsin...and Senate Democrats, who left the state to prevent any vote.

Let's stand with the middle class and send a strong message: not one of us will back down in the face of Republican attacks.

Donate today to support the already-inspiring efforts to recall Republicans who've attacked Wisconsin working families:

In solidarity, Brandon Davis, SEIU Political Director

PS - A poll in two of the targeted state senate districts that just dropped minutes ago shows that a strong majority would vote to recall Senators Dan Kapanke and Randy Hopper.

Keith Olbermann writes: "Republicans have overplayed their hand in a way that seems startling even for them, and they shall inherit the proverbial wind. They have taken another step, neither to be retraced nor erased, towards their political suicide - an event that cannot come a minute to soon for the real America of fairness, the sanctity of a contract, rules, and equal opportunity."
